The Island is recovering well but there is still a good deal of work to be done. As far as the Island goes, LA 1 is still 1 lane only from the bridge to Chenier. it can be a bit of a cluster! There are only 2 usable crossovers to the beach at this time and portions of the beach are unusable. The levy still needs to be rebuilt and everytime it rains, we have large amounts of standing water on the roads since the culverts are still full of sand. There is no golf cart path on LA 1 at this time. The Town is working diligently with the parish and the state to get the rest of the repairs completed and plans to have usable beach and crossovers before summer. They are even working this week on a plan to start selling golf cart tags again soon! Exciting news and PROGRESS!!
There is a large number of camps that are going to be demo’d by FEMA in the next few months so that will add to the hazards and congestion on the main roads.
We should have the cabins open within the next few weeks. Furniture and appliances for the 2 larger cabins should be here in a few days and we are super excited about that! Pictures will be posted as soon as everything is done. The outside still needs a little work but its all coming together! The RV sites are currently all occupied by crews working here in Grand Isle. That is great for the Island but has put us in a position to make some difficult choices. While we miss all of you and can’t wait to have you back, our main priority is to provide support as best we are able to the Town of Grand Isle. The contractors we have staying here in the RV sites are part of the group that will be reconstructing our levy’s and repairing the ditches/culverts for drainage along LA 1. They are working through FEMA, Jefferson Parish, and the State of Louisiana so timelines are “unknown”. They could be here for a month, or they could be here for a year. We are just not sure. With that said, we are not able to take any RV site reservations for the summer at this time. We had started to make a “wait list” for when we had a contractor pull up, but that seemed unfair to all of you. We will be posting here ane on our website as we have RV sites come available. We hope you all understand and respect that the town recovery needs to be our priority.
The cabins will be available for rent and will be posted back on VRBO as soon as they are finished and I can get some new pictures.
Sorry for the long post but there was a lot of news to share! Go check out our website and stay tuned for more (hopefully regular) updates and watch for pictures of the renovated cabins! We will also share as soon as possible when we have RV site availability!
Big loves from us and we hope we get to see all of you sooner rather than later!
